1.assume(v.): to take for granted or without proof
Ex: These guys also like their girls to be hairless, so they assume the girls want the same thing from them.
2.diameter(n.): the length of such a line
Ex: Pi is officially defined as the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter.
3.ecosystem(n.): a system, or a group of interconnected elements, formed by the interaction of a community of organisms with their environment
Ex: And at the same time as it did that, it destroyed an ecosystem that once supported a different kind of endeavor.
4.emerge(v.): to come forth into view or notice, as from concealment or obscurity
Ex: If that happens, Kentucky could emerge, ironically, as ground zero for a more progressive, women-friendly politics.

Ex: I'll go out on a limb here: I don't think we're heading to a brokered convention.
8.manage(v.): to bring about or succeed in accomplishing, sometimes despite difficulty or hardship
Ex: “This crisis is too serious to be left to manage by only a few countries,” she said.
9.penetrate(v.): to pierce or pass into or through
Ex: The leads in Blue Is the Warmest Color scissor in a dozen different positions but we never once see them penetrate each other.
10.rot(v.): to undergo decomposition; decay
Ex: Mud-caked cars sat under overpasses for months, like carcasses that refused to rot.
11.alert(adj.): fully aware and attentive; wide-awake; keen
Ex: Using a GPS system, the undergarments can also apparently send an alert to parents or police.
12.bush(n.): a low plant with many branches that arise from or near the ground
Ex: No one who spent his career at the agency and worked as an intelligence officer for the CIA has been in charge since before bush.
13.cylinder(n.): Geometry. a surface or solid bounded by two parallel planes and generated by a straight line moving parallel to the given planes and tracing a curve bounded by the planes and lying in a plane perpendicular or oblique to the given planes
Ex: That cylinder is in a chamber within the satellite, not unlike an astronaut aboard the International Space Station.
14.desperate(adj.): reckless or dangerous because of despair, hopelessness, or urgency
Ex: So you know the reader is desperate to find out what happened after the shot rang out.
15.foliage(n.): the leaves of a plant, collectively; leafage
Ex: A silverback is munching contently and endlessly on foliage.
16.gap(n.): a break or opening, as in a fence, wall, or military line; breach
Ex: On the day before the big vote, Governor Walker leads Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett by just three points, and the gap was shrinking.
17.grab(v.): to seize suddenly or quickly; snatch; clutch
Ex: Silently, he moves to grab a kombo (a whisk broom instrument)—then, softly, he taps her shoulders and head.
18.gravity(n.): the force of attraction by which terrestrial bodies tend to fall toward the center of the earth
Ex: American Hustle and gravity both lead with 10 Oscar nominations apiece followed closely by 12 Years A Slave with 9.
19.layer(n.): a thickness of some material laid on or spread over a surface
Ex: Just who is crazy enough to go swimming when the pond across the street has a layer of ice across the top?
20.lean(v.): to incline or bend from a vertical position
Ex: Virtually every designer whose work made one lean in to get a better view manipulated fabric.
21.leap(v.): to spring through the air from one point or position to another; jump
Ex:“When you work with Pedro, I believe you have to take a leap of faith,” Banderas said.
22.shrug(v.): to raise and contract (the shoulders), expressing indifference, disdain
Ex: The fact that this has been greeted with little more than a shrug shows how far the nation has come on religion in politics.
23.swing(v.): to cause to move to and fro, sway, or oscillate, as something suspended from above
Ex: His ideological variability across a range of issues has caused many to label him the “ swing justice.”
24.tangle(v.): to bring together into a mass of confusedly interlaced or intertwisted threads, strands, or other like parts; snarl
Ex: The tangle of groups, funders, and leaders in the black anti-immigration effort—as in the broader movement—can be hard to follow.
25.muddy(adj.): abounding in or covered with mud
Ex: There was Mahmoud Abdul Wahab, a 23-year-old nursing student dressed in muddy jeans, bouncing off the walls with excitement.
